NDC Gangsters Strike Again

Scores of supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), last Wednesday took the law into their hands, and subjected one Mrs.

Juliana Martey, a former Constituency Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to severe beatings, after she refused to hand over the key to a public toilet she was operating.

The hooligans, who were led by one Teye Narh and Rose Mamley Okli, Akwanor “A” Polling Station Secretary and Akwanor-Mampong electoral Area Assembly Member respectively in the Lower Manya Krobo District, declared an “Operation take over all public toilets” in the area.

In a bid to bring the operation into reality, the self-styled “Rambo” NDC members moved from one toilet to the other to take over their operations, but received stiff opposition when they reached that of the former NPP Constituency Women’s Organiser. For challenging their unlawful demands, the NDC thugs subjected the poor woman to severe beatings until good Samaritans intervened to save her life.

Mrs. Martey, who complained of body pains, was at a loss of words newsmen contacted her on phone. According to her, she would have been pronounced dead by now, but for the timely intervention of onlookers. According to her, the case had been reported to the Odumase police, who issued her with a police medical form to attend hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, no arrests had been made as at the time of filing this report. Both Teye Narh and Rose Mamley Okli refuted the allegation when reached on their cell phones to react to the story, even though they admitted that they went there to take over the toilet. According to them, they went there to take over the toilet upon directives from the Unit Sub Committee of the Assembly, which has ordered all public toilet operators in the area to hand over their keys to the Assembly.

In a letter captioned “Abrogation of Contact on Public Toilets,” signed by the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area, Isaac Agbo Tetteh, and copied to the operators, states: “In pursuant to the decision of the Executive Committee of the Assembly on March 12, 2010, contracts between managers of all privatized public toilets of the Assembly have been abrogated, with effect from April 15, this year.”
It continued that the decision had been necessitated by obvious breaches of the terms of contracts, and serious problems associated with management of the toilets, and therefore charged them to hold themselves in readiness to release the management of the toilet to the Assembly.

On the other hand, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) jointly signed between the public toilet operators and Assembly, by the ex-DCE of the area, Mr David Sackitey, and President Member, Mr Emmanuel Agyarko, indicated that the contract between the Assembly and the former would expire in December 2010.
