Check these criminals in the movie industry

Dear Editor,

I have come to realize that the movie industry has been turned into a platform of money making for ‘hungry criminals.’

You don’t have to be angry if I call them hungry criminals because that is what they are, claiming to be movie directors, producers etc. extorting monies from desperate and innocent will-be actors and actresses.

They organize auditions for movies and make their attendants pay so much before and after auditions, ranging from 30 Ghana cedis to 100 Ghana cedis and above.

After auditions, they make their cast come for rehearsals in drinking spots, class rooms, hotels etc and when late or absent you will be made to pay 5 to 10 Ghana cedis as penalty.

After three months of intensive rehearsals, the probability that their cast will be taken to location to play the roles of villagers, maids or the popular “walker pass” would not be certain. Even if they are taken on location, there is no hope that the movie will ever come out and all this criminals would say is that “the movie is under editing”.

I wonder what is being done about this people, because they are parading the streets and cities of Ghana, extorting monies from the pockets of young and talented youth who want to become movie stars.

I therefore urge the body in charge of overseen the smooth run of Ghana movie to sit up and stop these criminals before they kill and tarnish the good name of the Ghana movie industry.
