The Ghana Baptist University College has committed GH¢500,000.00 for the construction of a four-storey block nursing school and health centre at the Abuakwa campus.

Professor Edwin K. Wiredu, Chairman of the Governing Council of the college, performed the ground breaking ceremony for the construction work to start.

The project includes lecture halls, children’s ward, demonstration room, offices for lecturers and male and female wards.

The block, which is being funded by the college, the Ghana Baptist Conference and its United Kingdom and US counterparts, is scheduled for completion by the end of April, 2011.

Prof Wiredu said the project would contribute to the promotion of quality healthcare delivery in the country.

He said the college is determined to train adequate nurses to help address the health needs of the people.

Prof Wiredu expressed confidence that the nursing school would enrol the first batch of students in September, next year.

He appealed to the contractors to avoid delays and ensure that they finish the job on time.

Nana Appiah Boateng II, Chief of Abuakwa, praised the university authorities for the initiative and pledged to release more lands to the institution for its expansion works.—GNA
