The Media team captained by goalkeeper Anthony Bells Kafui Kanyi took the game to their opponents’ right after the referee’s whistle for commencement of the game and dominated the first half of the game but failed to get the opener.
In the third minute, Anani Gbadago of Volta Star Radio and member of the Media team failed to put the scribes into the lead when he messed with a clear “me and you chance” to find the net.
The Police team came back from recess stronger after they made some changes to beef up their attack but were constrained to play in their own and unable to break the defence of the media team.
The security men however managed to break the ‘virginity’ of the game five minutes to regulation time when Christopher Andorfo capitalized on a defensive blunder to blast a long range shot past the media goalkeeper for the opener.
After the goal, the Police increased further pressure on the media team with their supporters including the Regional Police Commander, Mr David Nenyi Ampah-Bennin cheering them on.
The media team soaked up the pressure and with determination to salvage their image the strikers went on a counter attack and Believe Kwaku-Mensah was brought down in the Police 18-yard box for a penalty.
Richard Kumadzro beautifully converted the penalty kick for the media team’s equalizer just on the stroke of full time.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Mr Ampah_Bennin commended the media personnel in the Region for collaborating with the Police Service over the years to discharge their duties.
He said the results of the match was fair and a true reflection of the game and hoped the game would further enhance police-media relations in the Region.
Mr Victor Kwawukume, Volta Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association, (GJA) said the Police remains a major partner with the media in combating crime, corruption and bribery and said it was good that the two institutions collaborated to mark the Day.
He called for frequent interaction between the two institutions to map out strategies to fight crime.
