The Spokesperson of the Abudu gate, Dr. Zimblim Iddi says they have course to believe that the office of the Attorney General is deliberately dragging the case involving some 9 Abudus who were picked up a couple of weeks ago in connection with the murder of the Late Ya Na Yakubu Andani and some others in 2002.

The case was called on Monday May 31, to allow the AG’s Department commit 6 of the accused to trial and formally discharge three others who have been remanded in custody but without charges.

According to Dr. Zimblim, the failure of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Gertrude Aikins to appear before court and failing to appoint anyone to apply for the release of the other three suspects who have still not been charged, is most unfortunate.

“At the court this morning, it was for the prosecution from the AG’s office to first of all commit the 6 people that are being charged and then formally discharge the three others that are still in custody and have not been charged. Now when we went to court, there was a representative from AG’s office and he informed the judge that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), that is Gertrude Aikins, has travelled out of the jurisdiction of the court so they were pleading the court to adjourn the case till June 14” he stated.

Counsel for the Abudus requested that the three persons be freed, but the judge said the DPP has not filed a formal application for them to be discharged.

Dr. Zimblim Iddi said the Abudus were worried about the incessant adjournment of the case and the refusal to free the three suspects who have been in detention since May 14 without charges against them.

The case has since been adjourned to June 14, 2010.
