NPP Member of Parliament for the Abirem Constituency in the Eastern Region, Hon. Esther Obeng Dapaah, has rendered an apology to the 2008 Flagbearer of the NPP Nana Akufo-Addo and the party, for an unruly conduct that marred the latter’s visit to her constituency.

A party rally that was scheduled to be addressed by Nana Addo in the Abirem constituency of the Eastern Region on Saturday May 29, was cut short due to hot exchanges between the Abirem MP and the constituency Chairman Charles Anim Baffour at the rally grounds.

The Presidential Hopeful, Nana Akufo-Addo and his supporters left the grounds in disappointment when the hot exchanges started.

There has been tension between the MP and the constituency Chairman who had earlier accused Hon. Dapaah of frustrating the work of the constituency executives.

According to him, the MP has refused to hand over a party office and other party logistics to the new executives.

He told Citi News in an earlier interview that Hon. Dapaah’s behaviour was affecting the constituency and was likely to disturb the visit of Nana Akufo-Addo to the constituency.

However, Hon. Obeng Dapaah denied the allegations.

In a statement issued by the MP on Monday May 31, she told Citi News the Constituency Chairman and his executives, were rather responsible for the disruption of Nana Addo’s meeting in the constituency.

She alleged that Mr. Charles Anim and some persons were caught on a recording planning to disrupt Nana Addo’s visit to the constituency.

‘‘The Constituency Chairman and his executives planned to disrupt the meeting. They were caught on tape saying that the arrangement of Nana Addo’s meeting was not left to them so they are planning to disrupt it, and that’s exactly what they did stated. The Chairman hired a car from Nkawkaw which brought some galamsey boys to disrupt the meeting’’ she said.

‘‘There was a statement I made to Mr. Anim when we were sitting down at the meeting. I told him to take his hands off me but he did not like it and started arguing back so he was driven out of the hall. That was when his followers started misbehaving so there wasn’t a hot exchange’’ she noted.

Hon. Obeng Dapaah denied allegations by the Chairman that she had seized the party’s office and other logistics. According to her, the chairman has not approached her over the said party property as he alleges.

She said the constituency chairman was only being unreasonably difficult saying he virtually refuses to accept any explanations given to him.
She stated that the car, the office and the computers, are her personal belongings and not for the party.

Hon. Obeng Dapaah, who is yet to render a personal apology to Nana Addo for the unfortunate incident, has invited the 2008 flagbearer to call another meeting with executives of the Abirem constituency.
