When an Accra based business woman decided to exhibit her philanthropic tendencies by offering accommodation to a five month old pregnant woman, she never anticipated the cost of her kindness.

Indeed, Mrs Patricia Kumi was virtually taken aback when she realized rather too late that her alleged special guest was notorious thief who ended up raiding her home and making away with various items worth several thousands of Ghana cedis.

Available information indicates that sometime in April this year, the business woman was returning to her Laterbiokoshi home at about 9:30pm when she was approached by the nicely dressed pregnant woman.
She reportedly introduced herself as Gertrude and that she had come from Cape coast to look for her husband but could not locate his house at Kaneshie because it was late.

In a rather distressed manner, the supposed ‘lost woman’ narrated how she had just been robbed of her cash and phone and requested the business woman to help her get a place to lay her head so she could continue her search for the husband the next morning.

Touched by the plight of the pregnant woman, Mrs Kumi decided against protestation from her son in whose company she was to accommodate the unknown woman at least for the night to enable her continue the search for the husband the next day.

P&P gathered that upon arrival home, the business woman housed her visitor in the room of her daughter who had traveled out of town. This was after she had offered her food and all other necessities to make her stay an enjoyable one.

However disaster was to strike the next morning when Mrs Kumi went into the room to see how the guest was faring. To her surprise, the unknown visitor had broken into the wardrobe in the room and made away with clothes, jewelries, mobile phone, laptop and other valuable items and bolted.

Fortunately for the businesswoman, about a month later she spotted the said woman at the same spot trying to use the same strategy on another person so she raised an alarm leading to her arrest.
When Gertrude was arraigned before an Accra Circuit court, she was remanded in prisons custody to re-appear later.
