Kosmos Spills oil at Cape three point
Posted by on July 30, 2010 at 5:15 pm in Business, Other Top StoriesGovernment says requisite mechanisms have been instituted to forestall future oil spillages on the country’s coastal lines following Kosmos’s recent spillages.
The committee tasked with investigations into the spillages submitted its report to the Minister of Environment, Science and Technology on Thursday, July 29. The report covered the company’s three spill incidents of low toxicity oil-base mud of almost 690 barrels.
The committee faulted Kosmos Energy for negligence and has therefore recommended that the oil-firm be fined. The Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Sherry Aryittey says although the ministry is yet to take a definite action on the report, plans are far advanced to avert any further spillages.
“I want to assure you that the systems are being put in place to deal with oil spillage; these include oil spill contingency plan, baseline studies on Ghana marine environment, and protection of social rights of people living along the coast and also to ensure fish stock for the fishing communities.” She said.
