The Greater Accra National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) last Tuesday launched its week celebration on the theme ‘National service in the drive towards a better Ghana.’
The program, which brought together about 700 national service personnel from the Greater Accra Region, witnessed brilliant cultural performances from the Ghana Dance and Ensemble.
Addressing the gathering, the Director of Manpower at the Defense Ministry and Chairman for the ceremony, Col. Tom Bacher Bana, said “the national service policy was a noble policy and a corner stone for training the youth.”
He, however, advised the national service personnel not to look elsewhere for employment or greener pastures, but remain and contribute their quota towards the development of the nation.
On his part, the Greater Accra the Regional Director of NASPA, Mr. Ebenezer Eyidzi, expressed gratitude for the efforts and contributions of the personnel in helping the country to achieve its goals.
The President of NASPA, Mr. Osei Gyeing, on behalf of the personnel thanked the coordinators for what he described as the “rapid response we received from the regional coordinators concerning the allowances due them and most importantly, seeing to it that their allowances were paid to them.”
Against that background, Mr. Osei seized the occasion to make a passionate appeal to all coordinators of the program to take steps to resolve problems that bedevil their offices to ensure the smooth running of the association.
He said as part of its long week celebrations, the association has decided to assist the Ghana Aids Commission to create awareness on the dreadful HIV/AIDS disease.
He, therefore, urged members of the association to make it a point to take part in educating the masses on the virus.
Nii Armah Ashitey, the Grater Accra Regional Minister, in address linked the theme of the program to the slogan of the NDC saying “it very appropriate.”
The minister, however, advised members of NASPA to critically consider the agric sector as a source of employment rather than searching for “white coloured jobs” which might not be readily available.
Amongst the activities lined up for the celebration included clean-up exercises, tree planting among others.
