STORY: FROM MICHAEL SARPONG MFUM, SEIKWA, B/A
Information available indicates that the lives of students of Nkoraman Senior High School (NKOSEC) at Seikwa in the Tain District of the Brong Ahafo Region is in grave danger and there could be a possible outbreak of diseases due to the unhygienic conditions under which, their foods are prepared.
Dining hall is non-existent in the school and sadly the pantry bowls are served on raw dusty grounds exposing them to flies and all manner of harmful insects.
The matron of NKOSEC has to make do with a make-shift structure with palm trees providing shade to be used as a kitchen, leaving the caterers at the mercy of the weather.
During a visit by Today to the school, it was also observed that a converted two- classroom block was the only boy’s dormitory in the school. And as a result, these classrooms are used for different classes at different times.
Some of the students, our reporter spoke to, expressed their disgust about the situation.
They indicated that, they always have to wake up very early sometimes around 3:00 a.m., to prepare for lessons.
The paper found out that an ongoing construction of an ICT complex, which is at the lintel level has been abandoned.
Mr. Moses Kofi Boakye, the Headmaster of NKOSEC told Today that the project started five years ago by the Tain District Assembly (TDA) under the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.
According to Mr. Boakye, since the current administration resumed office, the project has come to a standstill.
Again, due to the poor infrastructure in the school, a yet-to-be commissioned GETFund dormitory project for girls has already been occupied by the students.
Mr. Boakye therefore made a passionate appeal to non-governmental organisations, philanthropists and the President Mills-led government to give the school a helping hand.
