Govt to deal leniently with nation reckless – President Mills
Posted by on August 30, 2010 at 10:25 am in Other Top StoriesPresident John Evans Atta Mills has said the government will proceed cautious and safeguard revenue from the country’s oil resources from what he describes as “vampires” who want to deny the broad masses of people improved standards of living.
Addressing a large section of Ghanaian communities in Bern in Switzerland, President Mills described those who had devious intentions of rigging money from oil revenue as saboteurs, stressing that government will deal leniently with such nation reckless.
According to him, government will make sure Ghanaians benefit from the oil find, and will account for any money that government derives from the oil revenue. “Already there are so many vampires who are invading Ghana and I want to warn both Ghanaians and non-Ghanaians that we are not going to sit and allow our God-given resources to be mismanaged. The people of Ghana must benefit from [these resources].
“In the recent past so much has been written and said. We are guided by only one thing. “In pursuing the national interest we have to be fair, transparent and objective. This is what we are trying to do and all kinds of interpretation” has been given to it “but we are not going to be distracted,” the President said.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni on his part said the Mills led government is working hand in hand with the electoral commission to allow Ghanaians in the Diaspora to exercise their franchise.
“The NDC in opposition took a position not against the principle not against the principle of enfranchising our citizens abroad but we took issues with the flawed process by which this was sought to be done,” Alhaji Mumuni indicated.
