Akuffo Addo should be more vigilant
Posted by on August 31, 2010 at 3:05 pm in Feature Articles, Other Top StoriesAs I listened to your “THANK YOU” message live via the internet from my room in the Bronx, New York, I was filled with oceans of tears. The only words that swirled through my mind were that, you are truly, the SON of the MAN. As you prove that, the best wine is the oldest. The undertone of your speech, which tells me that, ‘the shortest and best way to make your fortune is to let people see clearly that it is in their interest to promote yours”. It was extremely a resounding speech ever given in Ghana’s political history.
Your victory was, as a result of a heartwarming performance you put up. It was a HIT! It also accounts on your humility, your improved way of how grassroots should be treated, and your vision for providing help for the needy. You combined great talent and great will-power.
As strategies need to be changed, there are flashpoints that need not to be overlooked, Asokwa, Subin, Bantama and among other constituencies within the region
They are pre-warning to your presidential success. The reflections we all witnessed during the just ended presidential primaries give clear evidence that should serve as an ultimate guide towards our victory for 2012 general elections. I humbly urge you, not to leave any stone unturned.
A wise man will keep his suspicions muzzled, but he will keep them awake.
As your loyal disciple, who has followed every political move of yours over seventeen good years, I feel dutifully and obliged to share my experience and observations with you.
Heaven knows what you stand for and what you truly believe in, UNITY. Since 2007, when you emerged the flagbearer, and preached on it, and true to your word, and in your own wisdom, you brought all souls who mattered most under one roof to fight a good course.
You love company, even if it is only that of a small burning candle.
Even as a thing is in the act of coming into existence, some part of it has already ceased to be.
Within our noble Danquah Busia and Dombo fraternity, it is emphatically clear that not all kukrdites believe in what you wholeheartedly stand for. Most notably, some party officials from the Ashanti Region. The aftermath and revelations of last elections attest to my piece. The logistics for the campaigned were deliberately hijacked by some of the leading members of the party.
Some of the vulnerable teenagers, who wholeheartedly volunteered to stay on a float through the scorching sun in order to promote your presidential campaign in 2008, were denied water and food. A number of the victims were voters, who out of anger swore not to vote in the elections. This incident might had played a strong part in the voter apathy which seemed followed it.
Those who think they have no need of others become unreasonable. You have in your done your best to yield to the taste but they don’t yield to your interest.
The bombastic public utterances and actions of some of the leading members of the party during the presidential primary elections speak volumes which are pre-warning. It is good to know what a man is, and also what the world takes him for. Some of the leading members of Ashanti Region have sworn on the Bible to impede your presidential success. These people are embedded with factionalism, and armed to the teeth, NOTHING can change their extreme loathe against you! These Killjoys, want to make you the modern political Moses: You will see Osu Castle/Jubilee House, but you will never ever set foot there in the capacity as a President. They will by any means necessary pull you down as you cleverly climb the victory ladder. Their evil actions provide opportunities for give chance to our political antagonists of the NDC, to penetrate. You and these few bad apples are utterly dissimilar. They oppose your philosophy, belief and vision. Even stones have a love, a love that seeks the ground.
They are not the right kaleidoscope to your 2012 presidential campaign success. By the very fact that they certainly know how to humiliate the vulnerable and voiceless members of the party, they have numbered your days. Some of these people are like “the kitchen table.” There are things people say about the kitchen table that they would not say in a polite society. All these identifiable people should be cast out of the circle of trust. They are hardly marketable in their own constituencies. No one banks on them. No need to waste the party’s scarce resources on them. Only God knows what they will use it for.
Meanwhile, the people from Ashanti Region undoubtedly love you and hit on you. The region has now overgrown into a cosmopolitan one, wherein one could find an appreciable populace of every ethnic group, though it is the Ashantis’ land. Unguarded utterances, and or actions against any other ethnic group, and can cause backlash and can effect voters’ behaviours. How could the NDC obtain a votes share of 16099 (%26.2) in Subin Constituency, as well as 12283 (%21.9) in Asokwa, just to mention a few, if we the NPP, claim those are as our strongholds? The results of the last elections, evidently shows that, you earned more votes than most of the then parliamentary candidates.
Those that have done nothing in life are not qualified to judge those that have done little.
Others are to us like the ‘characters’ of fiction, eternal and incorrigible; the surprises they give us turn out in the end to have been predictable – unexpected variations of being themselves.
The electorate is truly in-tune with you. The downtrodden support you, and have fallen in love with you. The good people are calling on you to save them. Your name is paramount, and a household name in the Ashanti Region. And it is our hope that you won’t this time allow us to hang our heads no matter what happens.
We expect that we make, will eventually make us. They are shutting their doors against a setting sun.
You are bursting with energy to run to the huddle. Getting after people in a positive, constructive way is a beautiful thing. That is what we need, especially when we are on attack. You have the youth who want to follow you; it is a little for the youth to rally behind you when they see you are serious about what you are doing. This is what you have strongly demonstrated. Your approach to issues is more serious and studious. You are coming more energetically and more upbeat. You are poised to win, as you have projected a mature and presidential image—tough and has vaunted high card of experience. You deserve to prove your salt, and implement all manner of ideas to our gradually failing country.
It has made perhaps most stupefying moment of your entire career.
You are an inevitable choice and bring balance to the party’s political equation.
You have truly grown in wisdom and influence.
Legends are not born out of plan.
Your volunteering service was all the more remarkable, patriotic, and, yes, heroic.
All you need to do now is to improve your voting record as the party hopes to build larger momentum. You have a universal appeal, as well as being imbibed with values and vision.
Politics and ambition, however, seem to be your true perspective. You are a man with a sterling civil rights pedigree.
The majority of Ghanaians voters now want to entrust the future to you, Akufo Addo. You have truly demonstrated that, you can empower the lowest person on the totem pole. Your encyclopedic knowledge of issues has peppered you for the highest seat on our soil. You are the momentum candidate of our generation, if not our lifetime, if we can get you out of the gate strong.
As a smart and staunch orator, you earned standing ovation after standing ovation, at Birmingham in the United Kingdom, after addressing Prime Minister David Cameron’s Conservative Party in 2008, which has today blessed them to their highest political seat in the United Kingdom.
The primary is a largely symbolic exercise, an interesting but inconclusive tests of a candidate’s skill and appeal.
We can only win the 2012 general elections if we work from “bottom-up” as opposed to “top-bottom.”
You have spent your entire life trying to bridge the gap between different kinds of people. This is in your DNA, trying to promote mutual understanding, to insist that we all share common hopes and common dreams as Ghanaians and as human beings. That is who you are. That is what you believe in, and that is what your campaign has been about. You don’t want political power for the sake of it. You want it for better schools for the kids and the youth; you want better health care; you want to create jobs for the people, etc.
The grassroots have put their hearts and souls into your campaign. Your base is loyal. They perceive that you have been there since time immemorial, and they are passionate about you.
This is the defining moment, a time of urgency. The old tactics would not work; this is no time to let the moment pass with old ideas.
It is our hope that, you can change our politics and our policy, so we can leave Ghana a better place than our generation has found it.
