The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu, has admonished chiefs to release lands to companies and people who would contribute to the socio-economic development of this nation and not to people with selfish inserts.
Speaking at the grand opening of the 23rd branch of Melcom Group of Companies at Ahodwo in Kumasi, the Asantehene pledged his full support not only to the company, but any other company which would generate employment for the youth of this country.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu noted that the contribution of the private sector to the socio-economic development of a country cannot be underestimated, since they absorbed most unemployed youths thus reducing the unemployment rate drastically.
He advised the staff of Melcom to be diligent and work as if their whole future depended on it, and also asked the management to treat the workers well to enhance productivity.
Chairman of the Melcom Group of Companies, Bhagwan Khubchandani, expressed gratitude to the Asantehene for the support he had given Melcom and promised to continue providing quality household items to the nation at affordable prices.
He noted that the many success stories by the company in the country were not mean ones since they had enjoyed maximum cooperation from both staff and management.
“Currently we have employed close to 1500 people nationwide and we intend to open more branches and employ more people too. We also intend going into housing in the near future,” he disclosed.
The Mayor of Kumasi, Samuel Sarpong, said the nation could only move forward if private businesses thrive, hence reiterated government’s resolve to put in the necessary structures to encourage local economic growth.
He urged private sector operators to take advantage of the present economic stability to transact their businesses without fear since “the environment has never been more conducive for investment than now.”
