Frances Asiam ‘curses’ Baba Jamal
Posted by on September 2, 2010 at 4:11 pm in News From Other Newspapers, PoliticsFrances Asiam, a member of the Opposition New Patriotic says she would not under any circumstance render any apology to Baba Jamal, the NDC’s Former Deputy General Secretary, over alleged derogatory and false comments she made on Citi FM after the Atiwa by-election on Tuesday.
The United Cadre Front Tema Sub Region, a group within the NDC has called on Madam Asiam to retract her statements to the effect that two people died as a result of NDC’s activities and also apologize to Mr. Baba Jamal, the NDC and Ghanaians over insulting and “un-radio” language.
According to the group since police and medical personnel in Atiwa have denied record of any death, it was prudent for Madam Frances Asiam “to come out as vociferous as she did on Tuesday, to retract her statements”.
The NDC group also asked the Campaign Team of Nana Akufo-Addo the NPP’s 2012 Flagbearer, to distance themselves from such outbursts and false alarm.
Speaking to Citi News in reaction to the group’s call, an obviously infuriated Frances Asiam said even if God comes down from Heaven, she would not apologize. “Absolutely no! Not now not ever. Even if God comes from Heaven, I am not going to apologize to any United Cadre front or any terrorists or hooligans and vandalistic organization full of tsarists” she said.
“What happened doesn’t mean I was wrong. In the heat of the exchanges and unwarranted violence unleashed on the people of Atiwa from New Jejeti, through to Abomoso by the Azorka boys, there were reported incidents on air that four people had lost their lives so we rushed to the scene and by the time we got there, Anita De-Souza’s car had run through the crowd already”.
“These reports had already been out in the media. I never said I was on the spot when the incident occurred. Baba Jamal’s car ran over somebody’s leg and as for that one I saw it with my eyes at Abomoso Hospital”.
“So if investigations have been conducted and the police and the Medical personnel are saying no death has been brought to their notice, what is my business there? She queried.
Madam Frances Asiam had called Baba Jamal a murderer and an idiot during an interview on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Tuesday August 31, after she had alleged that Baba Jamal’s car had deliberately run into an NPP crowd killing two people.
According to Madam Asiam, key members of the NDC have in the past made derogatory and false comments but were never made to apologize.
The Media Affairs Director of the United Cadre Front Tema Sub Region, Nana Yaw Amaniampong said he was taken aback by the utterances of Madam Frances Asiam.
“I am surprised that if this is how Frances wants the Ghanaian body politic to accept her and to take her as one who lacks decorum and decency, then so be it. If she is going to be a pillar in Nana Addo’s Campaign team, if she is not let the team come out and tell Ghanaians that we should ignore Frances Essiam and her comments, otherwise we think that if these are the kind of people who are going to follow Nana Addo in his campaign trail, then God save the NPP and Ghana” he said.
