Kwabena Duffuor’s NPP Connection

Rather than remove NPP apparatchiks from his office after the Daily post newspaper and others revealed how the place is crawling with them, Finance Minister, Kwabena Duffuor, has chosen to go down the path of ignominy by deploying a newspaper to attack the Daily Post and others while explaining why Dr. Kofi Asamoah-Baah, the NPP apparatchik, still works with him.

The Enquirer newspaper, in yesterday’s edition described the Daily Post, Catalyst and the Lens as “saboteurs” for revealing that Dr. Kofi Asamoah-Baah is an active NPP apparatchik who worked actively in the interest of the erstwhile NPP government while demonizing the NDC government while demonizing the NDC government.

Among other things, in an article published by the Corporate Guardian in 2008, Dr. Asamoah-Baah praised the NPP for the way it handled the Dagbon murder case, praised the NPP government for its organization of the Ghana@50 celebrations which he described as “the best ever” and provided economic indices to prove that the economy under the NPP was doing extremely well.

About the NDC, Dr. Asamoa-Baah, said it formed a government that beat up women and messed up the economy. Intelligence gathered by the Daily Post reveals that he also worked actively to promote the Kufuor government in the international arena even though the government was messing up the economy.

In defence of Dr. Kofi Asamoah-Baah, in a desperate bid to convince Ghanaians that he is not an NPP apparatchik, the Enquirer writes: “On the allegation that Dr. Asamoah-Baah churned out some figures to the Corporate Guardian in 2008 that were favourable to the NPP government, the officials said that could not have been his machinations.

They said he could not have concocted figures because of the position he occupied at the time the NPP was in power. They said the NPP was noted for conjuring figures that could have been one of their usual tricks. That this point raised by the Enquirer is of palpable lie is seen in the fact that the said article in the Corporate Guardian had the writer’s name as Dr. Kofi Asamoah-Baah.

If Dr. Kofi Asamoah-Baah is not the writer, the Daily Post is challenging the editors of the Corporate Guardian to produce whosoever the said article.

Thirdly, if the NPP used the name of Dr. Kofi Asamoah-Baah without his knowledge, how come that he has never, till date, disassociated himself from it? It is not as if Daily Post intelligence is not aware that he was the one who helped the NPP government to conjure magical figures for the international community to hoodwink them into believing that they were managing the economy well.

The argument that has been made by some, including the Enquirer newspaper, that he is paid by USAID (and not the government) and that he was in the Ministry long before the current Minister of Finance assumed office defeats the substance of the argument; that he is an NPP apparatchik.

That Dr. Kofi Asamoah-Baah is an NPP apparatchik and works for the Mills government as a consultant paid by USAID strengthens our argument that he must be removed from the Ministry immediately if the Mills government is not to fail Ghanaians in the end. Once has to read John Perkins’ THE CONFESSION OF AN ECONOMIC HIT MAN to understand. The West continues to use people parading as economic consultants to destroy the economies of Third World countries. That should not be allowed to happen in Ghana under the Mills Administration if valuable lessons of history are taken seriously.
The Daily Post is convinced that by his posture, the Finance Minister does not mean the Mills government well if he is putting in arguments to defend the likes of Dr. Kofi Asamoah-Baah.
