Coconut Grove Hotel in Elmina, the only resort in Ghana with a golf course, on Friday unveiled the first organic golf course in the country that kick-started a unique golden golf tournament.
The three-day tournament which was played among 42 men and 5 women was sponsored by Gold Coast Securities Company, Accra Brewery Limited, First National Savings and Loans Bank and Ghana Growth Fund among others.
Speaking at the welcome reception at the hotel, the Chief Executive Officer of Coconut Grove Hotels, Mrs. Yvonne Nduom, stated that it has taken the company years to develop the golf course not into a championship one but an enjoyable and recreational park to satisfy their customers.
She said due to its organic nature, the golf course is not harmful to animals and humans, adding that it is the first in Ghana after the United States of America (USA).
She added that the course is natural and has been expanded to 18 holes to entertain its guests.
She noted that the golf course will add to the numerous tourism potential in the region saying “in addition to the beaches, Kakum National Park, Castles among others, people will have another reason to visit the Central Region.”
Mrs. Nduom disclosed that another tournament will be held in January next year to coincide with the Edina Bronya festival.
The Board Chairman of Gold Coast Securities, Mr. Abakah Jackson, promised his company’s commitment to sponsor the programme every year, adding that for the past 15 years the company has invested in people and charged Ghanaians to join them to improve the lot of Ghanaians.
He said the company is now in six regions and was working hard to get to all the regions very soon.
The Managing Director of Gold Coast Securities, Mr. Seth Asante, re-emphasized his outfit will be around to sponsor the tournament every year.
The head of Asset Management at Gold Coast Securities, Mr. Kwaku Fredua-Agyemang announced that the first prize winner will get a thousand gold fund units which is worth GH¢1,000 with the second prize winner getting 750 gold fund unit and the third getting 500 gold fund units.
He added that all winners will get a one-night treat at the hotel to play golf.
A hundred golf fund unit will also be given for the longest ball and the closest to the pin.
He said the prizes will keep increasing every year
