Gomoa Nyanyano launches education fund
Posted by on September 29, 2010 at 12:12 pm in Education, Local NewsIn fulfillment of his promise to promote education in his community, the Chief of Gomoa Nyanyano, Nana Dr. Obeng Wiabo V, who is also the Oshiehene of Gomoa Akyempen Traditional Area in the Central Region, over the weekend inaugurated the “Nana Wiabo Educational Trust Fund”, to support needy but brilliant students in his area.
He also cut a sod to formally open a fully furnished secretariat to run the trust fund which was established with seed money of GHS100, 000.
According to Nana Wiabo, he vowed to address the fallen standard of education in his community when he was installed chief of the area 16 years ago.
This was also because most school children drop out of school to engage in farming or fishing due to financial problems in the area.
Nana Wiabo stated that his education trust fund was therefore to help address this problem to bring the needed development to his community.
The trust fund, he disclosed, will not only benefit children in public schools but also those in the private schools.
Nana Dr. Obeng Wiabo stated that he was not able to go the university due to financial constraints, adding that the experience gingered him to contribute to quality education since “lack of knowledge will make his people perish.”
He commended his predecessor for laying a good education foundation and also commended his chiefs and all those who supported him to make his dream a reality.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mr. Ekow Panyin, who was invited to the programme failed to show up without sending a representative or message to explain his absence.
However, some of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) aspirants who have shown interest to contest for NPP primary in the area donated handsomely towards the fund.
Others who donated towards the fund included the Chief of Gomoa Benso, Nana Takyi Wiabo, who supported with GHS3, 000 and Marseille Desailly whose GHS500 donation was done on his behalf.
