PHYSICIAN OFFERS EYE-OPENING VIEW OF AFRICAN LIFE
“For anyone growing up in the West – in Europe, America or Canada, for instance – this fascinating book, filled with personal accounts and descriptions, will be an eye opener.” Charles Muller, Phd, DLitt and DEd, Diadem Books

Growing Up in a Small African Village, by Robert Peprah-Gyamfi should be a wake-up call and reminder to all living in Western civilizations of what we take for granted. The book details the environment, living conditions, schooling, food, and community spirit of the tiny village of Mpintimpi, based in the West African country of Ghana. In an era when modern technology is the driver for most of Western civilization, Mpintimpi just received the first television in one of the homes/huts, just in time to watch Ghana gain victory over the United States in the 2010 World Cup.
Peprah-Gyamfi provides a bridge between two cultures, the traditional African and the urbanized West.
“My home was a small rectangular mud building measuring about ten metres in length and five meters in width,” says Peprah-Gyamfi. It had a roof made of corrugated aluminum sheets with two rooms inside to be shared with my 6 people in the family.”
These were the conditions over 40 years ago and very little if anything has changed to this construction.
Other remarkable accounts in Growing Up in a Small African Village include:
· What it is like to play football with a piece of fruit
· Living life while daily avoiding the most poisonous insects and snakes
· The constant battle against the world’s most deadly diseases
· The powerful community bonds in Africa
· A different way of celebrating Christmas and/or Boxing Day

Dr. Peprah-Gyamfi, through sheer determination, courage, hope and through his devout faith, raised himself above these primary conditions to receive a degree as a Medical Doctor from the University of Hanover in Germany. Through this book he shares his experiences and the bonds of community spirit.
In reading this book, he hopes that it will “inspire others to give back and help save and enrich the lives of hundreds of villagers in similar towns.” The proceeds will go directly to his initiative to build a hospital near Mpintimpi – Christ the King Hospital.
