The MP for Jomoro, Samaih Yaba Nkrumah has advised the youth to abstain from sex or use protective measures to reduce the high rate of teenage pregnancy and abortion in the constituency.

She gave the advice at the launch of a four year Behavioral Change Support Project at Half-Assini.

It is sponsored by USAID and implemented by the John Hopkins University School of Public Health center for communication Programme on family Planning.

She said it is much better for one to have children when one is ready to carry the responsibilities of a good mother in terms of providing for all the needs of the child.

Miss Nkrumah said teenage pregnancy and abortion endanger the lives of both the mother and the unborn child.

Teenagers must therefore abstain or protect themselves from sex.

She hoped the programme will sensitize and educate both the old and young on life choices before making any decisions.

Miss Nkrumah urged parents in the Jomoro District to educate their children to lead healthy life styles.
