President John Evans Atta Mills has expressed utmost disgust at the recent spate of robbery cases in the country making special reference to the Tamale-Kintampo road incident during which some passengers were allegedly forced to have sex with each other, including a man and his daughter.

The President met with his security chiefs on Friday, October 29, to ascertain the veracity of the story or otherwise and charged them to declare war on crime in the country.

President Mills maintained that his administration is committed to creating a safe society for every Ghanaian.

He charged the security services to dig deep and find the origin of the increasingly hollow-sounding story. He also urged the public to assist the security agencies to nip such criminal situations in the bud by being vigilant and offering information.

President Mills assured the public that the situation is under control, adding that he is confident the security agencies were on top of the situation.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, Communications Director at the presidency, Koku Anyidoho said the possibility that the story was concocted was very high, especially after extensive investigations conducted by the security agencies had revealed that nothing of that sort happened or been reported.

“It is becoming more than likely that this is a creation of some people, so the president has instructed the Police, the military and security services to dig as deeply as they can into this matter. Whoever is behind this attempt to disgrace the nation and tear the image of the nation apart must be brought to book…they must be exposed and disciplined appropriately. The lady whose voice we all heard has suddenly become a phantom, we can’t find her”.

Koku Anyidoho added that the President has charged the Security Services to declare war on crime and criminal conduct in the country.

“The President has also asked the security committee to declare war on crime and the operative word is war on crime and criminal conduct in the country…as far as IGP is concerned it is false…nothing happened, no hospital has recorded any case, we are looking for families. In fact the president is willing to go the homes of the supposed victims and sympathize with them”.
