UK branch of NDC hails supporters of 31st December anniversary
Posted by on December 30, 2010 at 9:07 pm in Other Top Stories, Politics The UK and Ireland Chapter of the ruling
National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Thursday wished cadres
and supporters of the government well in the commemoration of the
29th Anniversary of the 31st December 1981 Revolution.
In a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, said
the 31st December Revolution occupied a prominent place in the
history of the struggle for probity and accountability as regards the
governance of the country.
The statement was signed by Prince-Kassim Alubankudi,
Secretary of the NDC UK and Ireland Chapter.
It said the revolution helped to plant the seed of economic and
political stability.
“We carry with us factual memories of the rapid turn around of
Ghana’s economic growth rate from negative 7.1 per cent in 1983 to
positive economic growth within a transformational short time
period of 18 months, an achievement, which dramatically changed
the economic and political landscape, thereby paving the way for
increased decentralisation and democratisation at the district level
and subsequent re-introduction of participatory multi-party
democracy in 1992.”
The statement said during the days of the revolution, Ghanaians
drew inspiration from the enormous sacrifices made by all cadres
led by Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings in restoring dignity to public
service.
It said members of the NDC UK and Ireland Chapter
acknowledged the exemplary role the revolution played in advancing
the spirit of communal hands-on approach to nation building when
leaders of the revolution led nation building by example – joining in
communal cleaning exercises, rail line repairs, electricity extension to
remote villages, among other interventions.
“We look forward to joining hands with all those who believe in
the spirit of stable nation building in an atmosphere of peace and
unity as we together respond to the challenges of building a better
Ghana.
“We particularly look forward to working with the cadres of the
revolution to further promote and protect the better Ghana agenda
and the constitution of the Republic of Ghana.”
The statement said the NDC UK & Ireland Chapter also looked
up to the cadres to support President Mills government as he
worked to alleviate poverty through investing in the hardworking
people of Ghana, jobs and the economy.
“We owe it to the good people of Ghana to better
co-ordinate our efforts and collaborate amongst ourselves so that
the government’s better Ghana initiatives can bring immediate and
visible results.”
