The Hohoe Municipal Assembly in the Volta Region of Ghana has given real meaning to the ‘Better Ghana’ agenda under President John Evans Atta Mills’ National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
Ghana Districts Today can report that there is massive infrastructural development on-going throughout the municipality and its environs.
A visit to Hohoe at the weekend showed various development projects currently ongoing in the area under the supervision of Hon. Victor Herman Condobre, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).
The on-going projects, Ghana District Today can report, have offered employment to a large number of unemployed youth in the area.
At Gbi-Kledjo, for instance, a two-storey eight-flat staff bungalow for teachers, an administration block, a dining hall and a pantry are presently being constructed for the School for the Intellectually Disabled.
All these projects were made possible through an emergency fund sourced from the District Assembly’s Common Fund, the paper learned.
Construction of pavement blocks, drains, a twenty-seater ultra-modern water closet lavatory and an estimated 40 lockable stores at the Hohoe Lorry Park also add up to the enviable achievements by the current administration.
The renovation of the Hohoe Magistrate court, funded by the assembly through its internally generated fund, with the support of the Common Fund is at its completion stage.
Commenting on the aforementioned projects, Hon. Condobre noted that plans were afoot to erect traffic lights at various road intersections in the municipality to ensure free-flow of vehicular and pedestrian movement.
“On agriculture, we have established a two-acre citrus farm at every Senior High School in the municipality for which we intend to extend it to cover some Junior High Schools and other institutions within the catchment area depending on the availability of lands,” he asserted.
He added: “We intend to plough lands for farmers on credit as a means to boost the youth in agric project to ensure that farming becomes productive.”
Hon. Condobre explained that the move is to ensure that agriculture becomes attractive to woo a lot of youth into the sector to address the high number of unemployment in the municipality.
He disclosed that fourteen (14) school blocks would be constructed to ensure pupils do not study under trees in the area.
The health sector was not left out as the Alavanyo Health post, which he noted, was in a deplorable state, would soon receive a major facelift under the ‘Better Ghana’ agenda.
He revealed that the Likpe Clinic would not be left out from the developmental projects lined up by his outfit to address the plight of residents in the municipality.
On roads, Hon. Condobre disclosed that funds have already been secured to rehabilitate a lot of roads that are in awful state, adding that it would help reduce the number of accidents that occur in the locality.
It was in this direction that he disclosed that chiefs in the municipality will benefit from an upward adjustment of their monthly allowances.
