The Deputy National Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. James Kofi Fonu, has urged members of the party to remain steadfast and help the Mills administration to achieve its electoral promises.

Mr. Kofi Fonu insisted that the party could only attract “floating voters” into its fold if members of the party, especially the youth, take it upon themselves to educate the citizenry on development projects undertaken by President Mills and desist from acts that tend draw the name of the NDC into the mud.

“It is important that as supporters of the party we become symbols of hope and help educate the public on the policies and programmes being carried out by the government. I believe that innovative programmes such as the STX deal which has just commenced, the NYEP and a host of other policies are offering people a lot of opportunities,” he stressed.

Mr. Kofi Fonu said this at the inauguration of the Korle Klottey branch of NDC Youth Committee in Accra on Saturday.

The programme dubbed: ‘Enhancing the Potential of the NDC Youth for a Better Ghana’ brought together several youth groups across the country amid “Jama music” from the Zulu group of the Accra Polytechnic.

He intoned that the NDC intends to remove all bottlenecks facing the economy to make life bearable for the common Ghanaian in its last two years in office, adding that victory would come easy in 2012, if all electoral promises are fulfilled.

On his part, Mr. Charles Gben, Youth Organiser of the Korle Klottey Constituency, seized the opportunity to challenge participants to adopt what he described as “all hands on deck approach” to help strengthen the foundation of the party.

He reiterated that the party can only remain in power in 2012 if the grassroots levels are fortified stressing that the “survival of the country rests with the NDC.”

“The eight-year rule of the erstwhile NPP administration has clearly showed that it is only the NDC that can make life better for the suffering masses of the country.

… We went through hell during the era of the NPP and it is important that as NDC youth groups we all work to ensure that the people of Ghana offer us another term of office to provide better economic policies and living conditions to the people of this country,” Mr. Gben added.

He further urged followers not to allow supporters of the NPP deceive Ghanaians by constantly explaining polices and programmes of the Mills administration to the masses.

Mr. Gben emphasised that the hue and cry about government’s non-performance are all attempts by the NPP to portray the NDC in a bad light and paint government black.

The 14-member group including a woman was subsequently inaugurated into office with the mandate of addressing concerns of disenchanted youth within the party.
