New NPP group supports Akufo-Addo
Posted by on February 18, 2011 at 8:54 am in Local, Politics Members of the “Nana Addo for President” (NAFOP), a group of supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), have pledged to stand with the party’s flagbearer every step of the way to promote true democracy in Ghana and remove political intimidation.
They said they had been inspired by Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo’s admonition to the party members to be bold and not to allow themselves to be bullied.
The group said the “All-die-be-die” statement by Nana Akufo-Addo was “timely and appropriate” because it would help to end what they claimed was the recurring violence unleashed on Ghanaian voters by unruly supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during elections.
These were contained in a statement signed by Oheneba Kwarteng, Chairman of the group, Mr Kwame Ampomah, Secretary and Mr Andrew Oti, Member and issued in Kumasi on Wednesday.
It alleged that there had been numerous election-related violence orchestrated by the NDC and in almost all instances the government failed to bring the culprits to justice.
“This makes Nana Akuf-Addo’s call on members of the NPP to be courageous and stand firm during the 2012 elections is very appropriate and we find no basis for the demand by the NDC that he should apologize.”
“Nana Akufo-Addo’s statement that ‘All-die-be-die’ means we should be courageous in our quest to build a nation where freedom and justice will not only be a slogan but a belief”, the statement said.
The statement said the youth of the party were ready to ensure that the Election 2012 is free, fair and credible.
