LG Communications says it will, by close of this month, finish assembling the first batch of 3000 netbooks for use by government in its IT expansion program.

The company has been engaged by the Ministry of Environment and Science to undertake the project as part of government’s plans to improve access to computer technology especially in rural communities as recently stated by the President in his State of the Nation address.

The multimillion-dollar project will see the company assembling thousands of RLG branded laptops.

Chief Executive Roland Agambire explained to Joy Business that beyond the user-friendly software the computers operate on, they are also equipped with a number of other special features.

The back-cover of the laptops was designed so as to withstand rough handling.

He further dismissed doubts about the durability of the mini computers.

“We have a full two-year replacement warranty. Based on the kind of commitment we have with this project, we don’t want to just produce anything,” he emphasized.
