Students of the School of Performing Arts of the University of Ghana, Legon have exhibited their true talent of acting when they performed the play ‘Julius Caesar’, as written by Shakespear.

The play was directed by Mr. Nicholas King Amenyedzi who also doubles as the director for A&G Unimedia, the initiators of the Ghana Health Awards.

The character, Julius Caesar was played by one Francis Fiifi Aboagye. He was highly exalted in the land of Rome and as a result, was envied by some of his own people; even those who he loved dearly. His wife was Calphurnia and was played by Betty Blay.

Caesar was a very ambitious and a strong man having defeated the recent military war, therefore the people of the town decided to celebrate the victory but some others thought the idea of the celebration is worthless because ‘it is a sad day’

It happened that Caesar’s victory over the military qualified him to be throne as the king of Rome; this, some people objected.

Two good friends- Brutus and Cassius as played by Philip S. Dankwah and Nicholas Asante respectively were against the idea as was initiated by Cassius. Meanwhile, Brutus appears to be the closest friend of Caesar.

During the victory march, Cassius and Brutus remained to discuss their diabolic plan to get rid of the supposed King of Rome. This, Brutus realized was an unpleasant plan because according to him, Caesar is a good friend and faultless to be killed.

But his friend Cassius was able to convince him enough with the explanation that when he (Caesar) is crowned as a king, he will be a tyrant and will not have any respect for his own people.

He added that, Caesar has a very bad sickness in the form of convulsion and that automatically disqualifies him from being crowned a king.

That night, Brutus could not sleep as he kept thinking of the whole plan he has discussed earlier with Cassius, he however came to the conclusion that Caesar will surely become a bully when he becomes a king and therefore it will be better to kill him.

Consequently, Cassius visited him (Brutus) the next day to find out what he is making of the plan. It was good news for him and so quickly, they started to plan and arrange with the murderers who will take up the killing work on Caesar.
The day came for the murder, as Cassius and Brutus have arranged with Trebonius and Metellus played by Richard Ackah-Miezah and Bright Nkansah respectively, with some other friends to take up the wicked act.

Caesar was invited to the senate where is would be killed; but his wife Calphurnia, for fear of death pleaded with him not to go.

However, he was convinced by Decius to go but on the way, a soothsayer warns Caesar of the impending danger that awaits him but Caesar still ignored him and proceeded to the Senate in the company of Anthony, played by Nicholas King Amenyedzi.

At the senate, Trebonius led Anthony away from Caesar and then the other conspirators killed Caesar. The initiated of the plan, combed in the street and announced to the people what they have done with the justification that Caesar will be a dictator when not killed.

Anthony came back later to mourn the death of his master and further declared war against Brutus and his other warriors.

On the battle field, Anthony with his warriors defeated the other opponents.

Out of shame, Brutus and Cassius killed themselves in the last end.
