Pastor Is Presiding Member For North Tongu
Posted by on March 22, 2011 at 2:40 pm in Other Top StoriesNewly elected assembly members in the North Tongu District of the Volta region have unanimously elected Apostle Senyo Mawufemor Cudjoe, the General Overseer of the Fountain of Life Chapel International, as its presiding member to steer affairs of the Assembly for 4 years.
Apostle Senyo, who is also the Assembly member of Vume Kpoviadzi electoral area, got the nod following a popular acclamation of votes cast by 77 members during the inaugural ceremony.
Earlier, the Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Henry Ford Kamel, in his inaugural address, charged the new assembly members to build rapport with their electorates.
This, he said, could go a long way to collate views and concerns of inhabitants to make it easier for them to be addressed by the district Assembly.
“I therefore urge all members to actively participate in the sub-committees where you belong. Members should also try as much as possible to seek the nation’s interest first instead of your own parochial interest and uphold the tenets of communal development to accelerate growth of your respective electoral area,” noted the deputy minister of lands and natural resources.
The minister stated that the assembly members were the bedrock of government’s ‘Better Ghana’ agenda and urged them to work diligently.
For his part, the DCE for North Tongu, Hon. Bube Dzinadu, entreated the assembly members to render selfless service to the district to boost development in the area.
Guiding the new assembly members to take the oath of office, the District Magistrate Judge in-charge of Dabsila and Adidome, his Lordship, Mr. Eric Fiamordzi, admonished them to eschew the habit of showing and usurping powers of traditional leaders in their communities but instead, should rather consult them on any issue of development.
Meanwhile, the South Tongu District Assembly also held its inaugural ceremony at Sogakope.
In an interview with Today, the South Tongu DCE, Hon. Daniel Kwadjo Amerloku, and MP for South Tongu, Hon. Kobena Mensah Woyome, both expressed confidence in the newly elected 60 assembly members in terms performance to bring development to the district.
“I must say that I have to praise the composition of the district legislators since it comprises highly competent and dedicated personalities poised to continue the good work of their predecessors to move the district forward,” the South Tongu legislator pointed out.
In a remark, the South Tongu DCE told Today that the Assembly was determined to carry out its action plans for the year which included the rehabilitation of roads, electricity supply and improving the supply of water and ensuring high sanitation standards with the support of the new assembly members.
“With the calibre of members elected to work with me, I will strongly be counting on their maximum cooperation the same way just like the support I had from your predecessors to enable us move the district in line with government’s ‘Better Ghana’ agenda,” the South Tongu DCE emphasised.
