GSA elects new chief commissioner
Posted by on June 29, 2011 at 8:55 am in Other Top StoriesThe Ghana Scout Association has at a Special General Meeting of the National Scout Council in Accra elected Mr. Gregory Manful as its new Chief Commissioner for the next three years.
With his election Mr. Gregory Manful becomes the youngest Chief Commissioner in the 99-year history of the Association. He takes over from Mr. Isaac Newton Addy who has served a 2-year term. Mr. Joseph Tambilla was also elected to replace Jemima Nartey as Deputy Chief Commissioner.
Speaking after election results were declared, Mr Gregory Manful said his vision is to strengthen the role of scouting in national development.
“This is an opportunity to place scouting in Ghana on higher pedestal. We will take the youth through capacity building programmes to make them self-reliant, entrepreneurial and supportive of national development efforts” He stressed his desire to instill tenets of self-discipline in the youth.
Prior to his election, Gregory Manful served as the Secretary, Deputy Programmes Commissioner and later Deputy International Commissioner to the Association for a period of seven years.
A product of T.I. Ahamadiya Secondary School, Kumasi and the Institute for the Management of Information Systems, United Kingdom the new Chief Commissioner holds a wood badge in scouting and has served on several committees to address youth related issues and represented Ghana at several scout conferences worldwide. He works in the land sector.
The Ghana Scout Association is a member of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement which is the largest youth organization in the world with membership strength of 28 million. The Ghana Scout Association turns 100 in 2012.
