Corinthians president confirms €40m offer for Carlos Tevez
Posted by on July 13, 2011 at 12:33 pm in Football, SportsCorinthians president Andres Sanches has confirmed the club have put together a €40 million offer for Manchester City’s Carlos Tevez.
The Brazilian club revealed on Monday evening that they had initiated talks with a view to signing Carlos Tevez, who has expressed his wish to leave England in order to be closer to his family.
It is believed Corinthians will receive a hefty sum as part of a new TV deal and Sanches has indicated that part of the incoming money will be used in their bid to sign the striker.
“I was in Argentina for a Brazil match [at the Copa America], I spoke with Tevez and his representative on the phone,” Sanches told Lancenet.
“Corinthians have made an offer of approximately €40 million to sign him permanently. This sum means we will be spending 20 to 25 per cent of our TV rights earnings if City accept it.”
The Brazilian club’s proposal still falls a bit short of City’s reported €56m valuation, but the Corinthians supremo has declared he will not make any improvements on his offer.
Sanches continued: “I have made an offer which I think City cannot refuse, and we will not raise it further. If they ask for that [€56m], they will keep him.”
And while the Corinthians president stated Tevez will have to take a pay cut in order to move to the club, he reiterated he has already figured out how to cover the striker’s wages.
“If the shirt sales goes through the roof, like they did with Ronaldo, we have a year’s salary paid. He is a player who has a strong marketing appeal,” he added.
“The marketing department needs to work. They are competent. A lot has been taken care of to take care of the salary. But he will make less than in England.”
Meanwhile, Tevez’s advisor Kia Joorabchian has declared he will try to find another club for Tevez if talks between City and Corinthians break down.
“These are long and hard negotiations, so it will not be simple,” he told AFP. “If a move to Corinthians does not happen, we will have to look at other options.”
Reports in England suggest City have rejected Corinthians’ €40m bid, but neither club have commented on the matter thus far.
