At an emergency meeting held on Thursday, July 14, 2011, the Central Committee of the Convention People’s Party CPP, considered reports on the ongoing grassroots work of building party structures from polling station, ward and constituency levels.

The Central Committee members were unanimous on the party’s goal of organizing an early congress to put the party in a good position to compete strongly and win the 2012 general elections.

After considering reports from two regions whose structures had not been completed, the Committee decided to reschedule the upcoming congress until the grassroots structures the party can rely on in the 2012 elections are properly built.

Justifying the rescheduling of the congress, Chairman and Leader of the CPP, Mr. Ladi Nylander said:

“It has become necessary for us to reschedule the national delegates congress. Since we are determined to move from a single digit result to an upper limit double digit at the 2012 elections, we deem it necessary to complete the grassroots mobilization exercise before holding the congress”.

“We want to go to congress fully satisfied that our structures are strong and reliable to run the full hub successfully for victory in the 2012 elections. In my view therefore, there is no point in rushing to congress with weak structures at the polling stations, wards and constituency levels.” The Chairman added.

As regard to a possible delay in organizing the party’s second congress scheduled for September 30th to elect a flag bearer, the Chairman explained that, the strategy of running a disciplined and successful campaign 2012 required all grassroots structures to be put in place by all means.

“If a delay now will deliver those structures that will help us win the 2012 elections, then the end will justify the means’ Mr. Nylander said.
