Judge beats wife
Posted by on August 23, 2011 at 12:35 pm in Other Top StoriesA Magistrate Court Judge in Cape Coast, Justice Narh Awah, is alleged to have turned his wife into a punching bag.
Justice Narh, who lives with his German wife, Dorothea Well, at Pedu, a suburb of Cape Coast, has been disturbing his neighborhoods with constant cries and shouts of help from his wife anytime he pounces on her.
According to some of his neighbours, it sometimes takes their intervention to stop the law enforcer from killing his wife anytime he is “possessed.”
But, when this reporter reached Justice Narh on phone, he denied flatly stressing: “It is not true that I have been beating my wife. And in the first place the woman we are talking about is my ex-wife.”
He went on to state that the story is “malicious and a calculated attempt to tarnish my reputation.”
He further gave a stern warning to our reporter: “The story is not true so if you go ahead to publish it, your paper should be ready to face the consequences.”
A neighbour who agreed to speak on condition of anonymity indicated that they (neighbours) were all surprised at the behaviour of the judge whom they believe was supposed to know better.
According to this neighbour, on July 27, 2011, Justice Narh allegedly attacked and beat up his wife mercilessly, which prompted some of them to rush to his apartment.
Sources close to the family whispered to the paper that not even several reports to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Cape Coast has deterred the judge from beating up his wife at the least provocation.
Residents of the area have therefore raised serious concerns about the development due to the inability of the police to expedite action on the issue after several complaints have been lodged by the wife together with her 13-year-old adopted son.
The residents wondered if the police were shielding the magistrate because of his status and called on the chief justice to take action on the matter to show that no one was above the law.
“If these individuals and institutions are supposed to implement the legal instruments including the domestic violence act that protects women and children, are found flouting the laws, then we are all not safe,” the residents added.
The family source further hinted that the issue has been reported to the Central Regional Minister, Mrs. Ama Benyiwa-Doe, Nana Oye Lithur and the Chief Justice, Mrs. Georgina Theodora Wood, but nothing has been done about it.
The source also stated that the judge has also caused the removal of two security men in his house when they tried to intervene in his constant beating of his wife.
The judge was reported to have complained to the Judicial Service that the two were challenging him in his house resulting- a situation which saw the two being fired.
Meanwhile, information available to the paper indicates that Madam Dorothea Well is seriously seeking for divorce to enable her go back to her country with her adopted son.
But Justice Narh Awah, according to close sources, is giving Dorothea Well hell since he does not want his wife to take the boy with her to Germany.
