…NDUOM UNDECIDED

The 2008 presidential candidate of the Convention People’s Party has urged leading members of the party to rally behind the newly-elected national officers to ensure the CPP positions itself for victory in the 2012 parliamentary and presidential elections.

Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom made the call in a statement on his reaction to recommendations of the Exploratory Committee, which was commissioned by Dr. Nduom in June 2011 to undertake a research that will ascertain the viability of his candidature for President of Ghana.

It was signed by the spokesperson of the Youth for Nduom 2012, Richard Nii Amarh.

According to Dr. Nduom, though he is aware that leading members such as Mr. Bright Akwetey, Mr. George Aggudey and Professor Akosa have their eyes on the 2012 flag bearer slot of the party, he believes this is not the time for expression of individual ambitions.

“We can report that Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom with due deference and respect for the new national executives of the Party, has decided to withhold his final decision on whether he will enter the contest or not until the CPP comes up with plans for the flag bearer contest,” the statement said.

To him, the election of new national CPP officers should rather spur on leading members to resolve all differences between them and ensure the completion of polling station organisation.

Against this background, Dr. Nduom affirms that he is ready to sit with the new National Chairman and Leader of the party, Samia Nkrumah, Akosa, Aggudey, Nylander, Riley Poku and others to “forge a united way ahead for the CPP.”

The statement goes on to add that “Dr. Nduom has decided to fully support the new national, regional and constituency executives to unite and strengthen the CPP.”

“As part of his contributions to the CPP, he has decided to ensure that 50 constituencies are fully resourced with offices and related equipment and chairs to make them capable of working effectively for the CPP,” the statement disclosed.

According to the statement, Dr. Nduom has already started by helping secure offices in Eastern Region, Ashanti, Central, Greater Accra, Western and Northern Regions.

“Dr. Nduom’s support for the resourcing of the Party at the grassroots level will begin to show this week as he joins CPP executives to commission offices at the regional and constituency levels throughout the country,” the statement indicated.

Since the 2008 elections, the statement reiterated that Dr. Nduom has not relented in his efforts to reorganize and build a formidable CPP.

“He has been moving from campus to campus, constituency to constituency, region to region and even internationally, just to make sure that there is some form of organisation going on. He helped make the recent national congress happen by his support for the organisational work that preceded the constituency and regional conferences.”

As part of his contribution to ensure effective education on CPP activities, the statement disclosed that Dr. Nduom has made available 3 video vans to visit communities during the evenings to show documentaries on CPP’s ideas and policies at market places, lorry stations and anywhere people gather.

“He has pledged to provide Pick-ups and motor bikes to all ten regional offices of the CPP to help them engage in activities that will promote the party. Lastly, Dr. Nduom also intends to provide support to 50 parliamentary candidates in the 2012 General Election.”

“We are happy to note that Dr. Nduom was one of the first leading members of the CPP to publicly offer unconditional support to the new national executives led by Hon. Samia Yaaba Christina Nkrumah. He has invoked the traditional CPP spirit of “…the Party is Supreme”. As Dr. Nduom is a man of his words, we know that he will live firmly by this commitment,” the statement noted.

Dr. Nduom also used the medium to urge the new leadership to move with urgency to ensure the election of parliamentary and presidential candidates soon to give them enough time to campaign effectively.

“The early bird, it is said, catches the worm.”

“We remain convinced that GHANA NEEDS the CPP and Dr. Nduom. Dr. Nduom believes that in-spite of all the odds, the party does not have an alternative but to position itself for victory in the 2012 parliamentary and presidential elections.”
