Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, the 2008 presidential candidate for the Convention People’s Party (CPP), has disclosed that his group of companies, referred to as Groupe Nduom, plans to build a university college in Elmina, his hometown.

According to him, the essence of the college will be to promote education in Elmina, its immediate environs, the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem Constituency and for that matter the entire country.

Some of the companies constituting the Groupe Nduom include Coconut Grove Hotels, First National, Gold Coast Securities, Ghana Growth Fund Company Limited, Yorke Properties, Elmina Sharks Football Club among others.

Although the Elmina University College of Education would be situated at Elmina, Ghanaians from all works of life are expected to benefit from the facility.

Dr. Nduom made this disclosure over the weekend when he organised a dinner reception for Elmina Sharks Football Club (FC) which qualified from the Central Regional Division Two Middle League to participate in the zonal First Division League for next season.

This is the second time the club would be participating in the zonal middle division after a two seasons sojourn in the same division.

The club was however relegated to the second division some two seasons ago; but worked hard to gain first division status after the just ended zonal second division middle league.

Accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Yvonne Nduom, Dr. Nduom, who is the president of Elmina Sharks FC and also the Life Patron of the team, Nana Kodwo Conduah VI, the Omanhene of Edina (Elmina) Traditional Area, commended the team especially the players for their qualification to the zonal first division.

Nana Conduah lauded the efforts of Groupe Nduom for the support it offered the team to qualify to play in the zonal division one league.

Elmina Sharks topped the zone ahead of crack teams like Gomoa Fetteh Feyenoord Academy who prior to the championship was easily the hot favourites; one time premiership campaigners, Swedru All Blacks and Brighten Stars, another crack division side from the zone.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the club, Mr. Bright Droefenu, hinted that management of the team was in the process of providing a training ground and a club house for the team to facilitate their qualification to the elite premiership division.

In the estimation of the CEO, the provision of such facilities would serve as major incentive booster for the team to qualify for the national middle league and eventually qualify for the national premier league.

All 32 players, including head coach, Prosper Nartey had real fun at Coconut Grove Beach Resort at Elmina where the dinner was held.

Formerly known as Coconut Grove Sharks, the club which chalked its 15th milestone recently is now a household name at Elmina and its environs after the sterling performance they exhibited in their zonal division two matches that saw them coming ahead of coach Sam Arday’s Feyenoord and the Black magicians- Swedru All Blacks.
