The studios of Asempa FM was the battlegrounds Thursday for National Democratic Congress heavyweights Kofi Adams and Alhaji Iddrisu Bature.
The two were discussing the absence of former President Jerry John Rawlings at events marking the 102nd birthday of Ghana’s first president, Dr Kwame Nkrumah.
The discussion spiraled into insults and name calling.
Mr Kofi Adams, who is the spokesperson for the Rawlingses had explained that Mr Rawlings did not participate in the events because he was not officially invited.
According to him, no letter of invitation was sent to the office of the former President inviting him to attend the ceremony as was claimed by a section of the public, especially some government officials.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Kofi Adams insisted that former President Rawlings was not invited to the occasion for reasons best known to Government. “I have checked from the Receptionist, Administrator, Security gate and all angles at the office of Former President Rawlings and no invitation was found, so automatically Rawlings was not invited,” he asserted.
“I think you can check from the Ministry of Information as to why former President Rawlings was not invited for further clarification” he said.
In a sharp rebuttal, the Managing Editor of the Al-Hajj newspaper, Alhaji Bature said he was aware that the former President was invited but added the invitation went late so Mr Rawlings declined to honour it.
He described Kofi Adams as a “dumb liar” who wanted to denigrate the Government and the NDC.
This led to a heated banter between the two out of which, Kofi Adams referred to Bature as someone who moved from one radio station to another to do the bidding of his pay masters.
That infuriated Alhaji Bature who could not control his temper and emotions called the bluff of Kofi Adams, calling him “a stupid boy”.
Host of the show, Nana Kwabena Bobie Ansah asked Alhaji Bature to retract and apologise for the offending comments, to which he obliged, pointing out that he was first insulted by Mr. Adams.
