…‘Don’t start war you can’t win’

The 2008 presidential candidate of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, has cautioned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to be mindful of starting what he says a “battle it cannot win.”

He has expressed disgust and cautioned Nana Akomea and other NPP media mouthpieces over comments they have been making about his personality, candidature and track-record especially calling him a “snake.” This warning was given in a press statement issued at the weekend by the Office Dr. Nduom and signed by Kofi Asamoah-Siaw, an aide to Dr. Nduom.

To the NPP media apologists who have started this battle, the statement asked them to showcase what their 2012 presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, did while he was in government. The release stated that Dr. Nduom on the other hand was not surprised at the reaction from the NPP and rhetorically asked “what are they afraid of, and why do they strain to break their necks over someone they rubbish as having no chance in the 2012 election.”

Dr. Nduom, the statement added, has at every opportunity shown gratitude to the CPP’s Central Committee which gave him the official backing to join the NPP administration led by President J.A. Kufuor, whom he (Dr. Nduom) also thanked for the opportunity to serve the country in important positions. In addition, “Mr. Fix it” as he has been affectionately called by many Ghanaians because of his sense of urgency and positive innovations knows and acknowledges the pressures brought upon President Kufuor from within his own party due to his participation in his [Kufuor] government.”

The statement stressed that it was apparent the recent announcement by Dr. Nduom of his intention to contest the flag-bearership slot of the CPP has sent shocking waves down the spine of NPP members. And although Dr. Nduom affirmed that he did not believe in insults, the statement said: “we have an arsenal of the great and wonderful achievements of Dr. Nduom in his personal life, private sector and in government waiting to release.

It also contended that as early as February 2001, Dr. Nduom faced attacks with names as “Kufuor’s socialist accomplice” and “Kufuor’s Nkrumaist friend.”According to the release, despite his challenges no one disputes the fact that Dr. Nduom made positive contributions and saw to the implementation of ideas he put on the tables as a Minister of State.“That is why when he was in government he was always and regularly ranked as one of the top ministers of state by public and independent organisations,” the statement indicated.

The statement recounted Dr. Nduom’s speech at the launch of his presidential bid last week which sparked this uproar.“If you are looking forward to better days on pension because of the new pension scheme signed into law in 2009, you have this CPP man to thank for it.“The National Identification Authority, the brand new ferries on the Volta Lake from the Millennium Challenge Account, the Single Spine Salary Structure and the construction of the Tetteh Quarshie to Mallam road were all the brain child of Dr. Nduom, the release recounted. The release categorically stressed that Dr. Nduom has in his a
