‘NDC is in bed with EC’
Posted by on November 9, 2011 at 11:08 am in Top StoryThe National Youth Organizer of the opposition New Patriotic Party has observed that their findings indicate that the ruling National Democratic Congress is ‘secretly’ holding meetings with the Electoral Commission (EC) in order to rig the 2012 General Election.
According to Anthony Karbo, the NDC will not hand over power on a ‘silver platter’ should they lose the 2012 election, asserting that they [the NDC] have been holding ‘secret meetings with the EC at Shai Hills’ to plan how to rig the 2012 election.
The NPP youth organiser made this revelation in Cape Coast over the weekend during an open forum and general meeting of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) branch of the Tertiary Education Students Confederation (TESCON) of the NPP.
“It appeared that there was a meeting and they (NDC) admitted that yes indeed one EC official came to brief them on the biometric [voters register] but why was it only the NDC and not all the political parties?,” he asked.
“When some of us raised the issue, the NDC said we were beating war drums and that the BNI and police should invite and arrest us,” he added.
He noted that President John Evans Atta Mills’ assertion that the referee will determine the winner of the 2012 election was in reference to the EC, adding that the EC has no power to determine the winner of the election.
“The people of Ghana will determine the winner of the upcoming election so the president should come out clear on this issue,” he affirmed.
Mr. Karbo made it clear that his party will not allow itself to be intimidated by the ruling party.
He therefore charged the EC to be fair in the discharge of its duties to enable the country continue to enjoy the peace and unity currently prevailing.
He also took a swipe at one of the deputy Ministers of Information, Baba Jamal, for publicly lying that President Mills had a First Class at the university while it has been established that the President had a Second Class.
He indicated that Baba Jamal’s outburst was not necessary since the country does not need First Class holders to run the country but intelligent, dedicated and people with vision to transform the nation.
“If the President had First Class and so intelligent like Baba Jamal claims, why did he not form his own party but waited for non First Class holders like Jerry John Rawlings to form a party for him to lead,” he asked.
“It is no surprise any way that a person like Baba Jamal will tell a fat lie like this because he has already made a mark for himself as a liar and someone who exaggerates since he told a group of journalists to hype whatever the president does and says,” he said.
For his part, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin North, Mr. Kennedy Agyapong, was worried about the assertion that people who speak their mind and have money in the country are drug dealers.
“In this country if you have money or known to be a free minded-person you are tagged a drug dealer but I know those who know me well will bear me witness that I worked to be where I am today,” he said.
He wondered why the NDC has a problem with the flag bearer of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo, when he dreams and talk big.
“The fact that NDC is not dreaming big does not mean Nana Addo should not dream and talk big. When the NPP said we will make health and basic education free in 2000, the NDC made mockery of us that it was not realistic but we were able to make it so if Nana dreams big by saying he will make education from basic to SHS free, then he knows what he is talking about,” he said.
Mr. Agyapong, who stated that he wants to be the first richest Ghanaian to be mentioned in Forbes Magazine, charged the students not to let anyone intimidate them into standing for what they believe in and fight for their dreams to come to reality.
He indicated that having a first class does not make you a good leader and mentioned some heads of states like Jacob Zuma, Lula Da Silva and other prominent people around the world who do not have first class but are doing very well to develop their countries and help humanity.
The Central Regional Secretary of NPP, Mr. Kwamena Duncan said the worst thing to have ever happened to Ghana was President Mills’ administration which he described as incompetent and gradually sending Ghana back to HIPC.
He said the NDC has tremendously increased the country debt to over 150 trillion within three years of administration and wondered what the government was doing with all the money they have borrowed since it does not reflect on the economy.
He charged the President to institute public education centres to counsel those who are already into homosexuality and not only condemn David Cameron’s directive in order to assist those who already find themselves in the disgusting situation.
Present at the forum were the aspiring NPP MP for Cape Coast, Mr Alfred George Thompson, some regional and constituency executives and some lecturers of the university.
