The Member of Parliament (MP) for Sunyani East, Hon. Kwasi Ameyaw Cheremeh, has indicated that he would soon tackle what he describes as ‘illegalities’ being perpetuated by the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Kwasi Oppong Ababio, and the Municipal Assembly.

Hon. Ameyaw-Cheremeh alleges that Mr. Oppong Ababio illegally approved his assembly’s internally generated budget adding that one Lawyer Otto Essel, who accompanied the MCE to the United States of America (USA) as a Presiding Member, had no right to travel in that capacity.

The MP was speaking on Sunyani-based radio station Space FM.

The Sunyani East MP explained that without a presiding member, the assembly cannot approve its internally generated and development budgets.

The Sunyani Municipal Assembly since March has failed to elect a presiding member on 10 consecutive occasions, after inaugurating 34 assembly members and 15 government appointees for the assembly.

Lawyer Otoo Essel has on several occasions failed to secure the required number of votes to cling the presiding membership position.
Initially, Lawyer Otoo Essel competed with Lawrence Amponsah and failed to secure two-thirds of the votes.

Hon. Amponsah opted out of the race, making way for Senyo Agbadra, Assemblyman of Baakoniaba Electoral Area, to run against Otoo Essel.

And since then the assembly has failed to elect a PM because none of them has been able to secure the majority votes.

Last week the assembly again failed to elect a presiding member when Lawyer Essel polled 20 votes while Senyo Agbadra secured 26 votes.
This called for a second-round of voting where Lawyer Essel polled 20, while Senyo Agbadra had 27 votes, a situation that saw none of the two being elected as the Presiding Member.
