Four media practitioners and a member of the Board of Directors of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) were on Friday, November 11, 2011 assaulted on the orders of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Hospital, Prof. Otu Nartey.
The practitioners were Henry Addo of Metro TV, Francisca Forson, Joy FM, Prosper Agbenyegah, the Ghanaian Trust and Eric Akotia of the Platform newspaper.
The board member was one Mrs. Stella Quaye. Today gathered that the five security personnel who carried out the orders had Goodman Adjei, as the leader of the gang, George Tei, Okaitey and two others whose names the paper could not establish immediately. The security men physically assaulted the media personnel and the board member, the paper discovered, with the tacit orders of Prof. Out Nartey.
Today found out that the beating occurred on the second floor of the Administration Block of the KBTH where they were dragged through the stairs to the ground floor. In the process, the journalists sustained severe body injuries, with some currently receiving medical treatment, ironically at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
One of the assaulted journalists, Henry Addo of Metro TV told Toady that he received hefty slaps from one of the hired assassins in the full glare of some onlookers.
The journalists had gone to the office of the CEO of Korle-Bu to enquire why he ordered the lock out of the office of the Director of Administration of the KBTH, Mr. Nelson Menorkpor.Prior to the assault, the victims had sent questionnaires to the office of the CEO with the hope that he would have answered the issues raised, with the pick of the pack being that of the locking of the hospital’s director of administration.
Per the questionnaire, the journalists wanted to find out whether indeed it was the CEO who ordered the closure of the office of the director of administration. On Wednesday November 8, 2011 Prof. Nartey together with Prof. Ayettey ordered the closure of the office of the director of administration of the hospital.
Today gathered that his office was locked out as a result of a legal tussle involving Mr. Menorkpor and the KBTH board chairman and the chief executive officer.
