NLC to doctors: Go to court

The Chairman of the National Labour Commission (NLC), Joseph Aryeetey, has counseled aggrieved doctors in the country to go to court if they feel dissatisfied with its ruling on the compulsory arbitration between them and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC).

According to Mr. Aryeetey, “they have every right, having realised that this is the issue to go up to the Court of Appeal for the matter to be looked at. ”

The NLC chairman’s comments come on the heels of a press statement released by the doctors which said they were denied justice at the end of the compulsory arbitration between them and the FWSC.

The members of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) said what was given them was judgment and not justice.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Tuesday, Mr. Aryeetey intimated that “when you go to court, and a decision is made and you are not happy with it, in so far as there is a hierarchy of courts, you go higher up the ladder to have the matter cleared on point of law. ”

He added: “They are contending that an issue has not been properly addressed… they did not give it consideration [during arbitration] and we think that is not proper so you take that up and then they can argue over there with the other side – the Fair Wages – whichever side wins that is what would prevail. ”
