The Chief Executive Officer of the National Identification Authority (NIA), Dr. William Ahadzie, has said workers in the Identification System and Card Department of the Authority who interrupted Wednesday’s work by blocking the main entrance to the premises will face the necessary disciplinary action.
According to him, some of their actions amounted to a set of offences recommended in their conditions of service.
Some aggrieved workers on Wednesday protested against authorities over unpaid salaries. The angry protestors blocked the main gate of the NIA and prevented customers from going to take their ID cards.
In an interview with Citi News, Dr. Ahadzie added that the action taken by the said workers is illegal since they did not exhaust the laid down grievance procedures of the authority.
According to him, employees in the Identification System and Card department have been earning their salaries since July this year.
He, however, said management is in discussion with the Ministry of Finance to get their arrears paid.
“Their action was out of context, we have held a number of meetings with them on this matter and I am told that efforts are being made for them to be paid,” Dr. Ahadzie assured.
“We are going to allow the disciplinary actions, the sanctions that are prescribed in our conditions of service to work since some of the things they did amount to offences under the conditions of service.
