Gov’t is trying to steal from the taxpayer – Ursula

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) government was trying to steal the taxpayer’s money, charges Ursula Owusu, New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma South.
According to her, the Mills-Mahama administration was hiding behind NDC financier Albert Agbesi Woyome to rob Ghanaians of their money.
Mr Woyome sued the State for abrogating a contract he claims was awarded him by the Kufuor administration – but the opposition party denies any such contract ever took place.
He was paid GH¢42 million by the Attorney General who failed to defend the State against the NDC financier.
Many commentators have raised issues with how the A-G handled the matter and others have called for the dismissal of the then A-G, Betty Mould Iddrisu, who now serves as the Education Minister.
The matter reached a crescendo when the A-G filed a writ at the Commercial Court in Accra to uphold a stay of execution of the judgment.
But Ms Ursula Owusu, speaking during a discussion on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Thursday, indicated that the A-G’s failure to defend the state might have some undertones.
“There are so many elementary errors that raise questions” about the conduct of the A-G in this matter, Ursula said, wondering why the A-G would enter defence, find a consent judgement and turn around to dispute it.
She insinuated that the laxity shown on the part of government as far as the Woyome case was concerned indicated the administration want to shortchange the populace.
She shouted: “aagbe wo eeeiii, aaaye wo taxes eeeiii, ene ake wo loans ?? ke wo taxes ?? fio lo?” To wit: They are killing us, they are squandering our taxes, is this what they are using our loans and taxes for?
