Media urged to promote reproductive health services
Posted by on January 20, 2012 at 5:26 pm in Health & LifestyleThe Upper West Regional branch of the Coalition of NGOs in Health has called on the media to partner the Coalition in its quest to promote quality sexual and reproductive health services and rights in the country.
The call came as a result of a recent review of Ghana’s performance on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) which says that Ghana is unlikely to achieve the MDG target on infant and maternal health.
Mr. Osman Luriwie Kanton, Regional Chairman of the Coalition who made the call during a media forum at Wa, said the Coalition in partnership with other stakeholders were determined to achieve the MDG targets on health.
He said the objectives of the Coalition were to network and share information among themselves, create platform to advocate and campaign for quality health for all and influence policy formulation and decision making regarding health issues in the country.
Madam Theresa Tampie, a Public Health Nurse at the Wa Municipal Health Directorate, said issues such as cultural and religious beliefs, poverty and high illiteracy rate had a great impact on the reproductive health.
She suggested increase in Community Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) as well as advocacy on maternal health.
