The National Executive Committee of the Civil and Local Government Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has given government a two-week ultimatum to address the anomalies within the Single Spine salary Structure.

Addressing the media last Friday, the group warned that if government fails to address the issue by 9th February 2012, its members will declare a nationwide sit down strike.

Until then, members of labour union have been asked to wear red bands with immediate effect while all offices affiliated to CLOGSAG should hoist red flags until their grievances are addressed.

According to CLOGSAG, the migration of its members onto the SSSS has not been completed despite repeated announcement by government that all public sector officers will be placed under the new pay policy scheme by December 2011.

Executive Secretary of CLOGSAG, Isaac Bampoe Addo, told the media in Accra that workers with the Accounting Class and the Internal Auditors within the Civil and Local Government Service, the Non-Formal Division of the Ministry of Education and some of their members within the Lands Commission are yet to be migrated.

He intimated that “Since September 2011, all efforts by CLOGSAG to get the Accounting Class, Internal Auditors, and some members within the lands Commission migrated onto the Single Spine Salary Structure have proven futile.”

Mr. Bampoe Addo stressed that, considering the mounting pressure being put on CLOGSAG executives by its constituents, and the apparent deafening silence from the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, government must take steps to address their concerns as soon as possible to ensure equity and fairness in the system.

He feared if care is not taken, the mishandling of the pay policy will engender the peace of the country as Ghana goes to the polls this year.

He argued that there is no consistency in the application of the principles underlying the structure.

He said, for instance, while there are overlaps with respect to levels below 21, the higher levels have no overlaps. This, according to him, implies that the structure has been massaged to the disadvantage of their members.—Myjoyonline.com
