DSP Theodora rearrested

Beleaguered Deputy Superintendent of Police, Gifty Mawuenya Tehoda, was yesterday rearrested and charged with abetment of crime.

She appeared in court today to face the new charge which stems from her involvement in the cocaine-turned-baking-soda scandal after the first charge was quashed by the court.

According to an Accra-based Human Rights Court, the charge of “stealing of cocaine” brought against DSP Tehoda was alien to the statute books of Ghana.

In view of this, the charge has been withdrawn by the State Prosecution and has been replaced with a new one—abetment of crime.

DSP Tehoda has been in BNI grips since December last year and was granted bail on two occasions, first for ‘unlawful detention’ and on the second occasion for an ‘alien’ charge being proffered against her.

She is now on remand and it is, however, unclear whether her lawyers will appeal the new charge.
