The Parent-Teacher-Association (PTA) of Academy of Christ the King Senior High School in Cape Coast on Saturday gave the school a big boost when they presented a brand new Tata bus to the school to help in transporting the students.
The PTA, which has been assisting the deprived school over the past years, presented the 60-seater bus worth GH¢65,000 to the headmaster of the school, Kofi Mensah Adator.
The Vice-President of the school’s PTA, Mrs. Benedicta Appiah, who made the presentation, explained that since the school has two campuses at Bakaano and Abura- both suburbs of Cape Coast- it was necessary for the school to have a bus to transport the students to and fro the old site to the new site.
She observed that the school cannot depend on government all the time to assist them in spite of the numerous challenges they face because of the pressure on government from other equally deprived schools across the country.
She said it was in this regard that the PTA thought it wise to take some of the responsibilities off the shoulders of government hence the donation.
For his part, the headmaster of the school, Mr. Mensah Adator, thanked the association for the kind gesture, adding that more hands are needed on deck to project the school.
He pointed out that the new site at Abura lacks electricity and pipe-borne water, adding that students have been using water from borehole for their chores.
He bemoaned that although the school has land in abundance, there is still a lot of infrastructure such as dormitories and hostels which the school lacks.
He disclosed that due to the lack of accommodation in the school, parents are compelled to pay huge sums of money to private hostels in order to accommodate their wards in town.
He however noted that in spite of the numerous challenges facing the school which has a students’ population of 1,240, it managed to score 100 percent in last year’s West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Meanwhile, Today gathered during the presentation that a 12-unit classroom being built under the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) does not have any toilet facility.
This reporter gathered that the project which begun a year ago will accommodate about 350 students when completed.
