STORY: FROM JAMES APPIAKORANG JR., ABUAKWA

A former teacher of Tweneboa Kodua Primary and JHS in Abuakwa in the Atwima Nwabiagya District of Ashanti Region was subjected to severe beating last Saturday February, 19, 2012 when a group of young men mistakenly took him for a journalist.

The victim, Kwadwo Yeboah, the senior brother of Oheneba Nana Asiedu, a broadcast journalist with Boss FM, a Kumasi-based radio station, had the beating of his life when he passed by the gang while making a phone call.

Today gathered that because both brothers looked alike, Kwadwo Yeboah was mistaken for his brother [Oheneba Nana Asiedu] and was therefore pounced upon by the group who appeared very irate.

The young men numbering about twenty (20) in the company of some women, and wearing red arm bands were believed to be aggrieved members of a popular group in the area known as ‘Obama Boys and Girls Fun Club,’ a youth support group of the District Chief Executive of the area, Nana Asare Bediako.

Oheneba Nana Asiedu, who spoke to Today after the incident, said the group suspected that it was him who was making a live report on the radio and hence the attack on his brother.

He noted that it took the intervention of one of the leaders of the group, one Fati, who drew their attention to the fact that she knew the journalist very well and that the one they were assaulting was not him, which intervention saved the life of innocent Kwadwo Yeboah.

He disclosed that the blood soaked Kwadwo Yeboah was then taken by some Good Samaritans to the Abuakwa Police Station where he was given a medical report to go to the Abuakwa Health Post for treatment.

Today further established that the group had gathered to begin a demonstration against their mentor and DCE for what insiders described as lack of support from Nana Asare Bediako whom they have supported intensely since his appointment as the Chief Executive Officer for the area.

Today can reveal that Oheneba Nana Asiedu is said to be a great critic of the DCE, and according to the group, been on their wanted list for some time now, vowing to ‘get him by all means.’

The DCE, whom this paper learnt was present at the scene, is yet to make any statement to the affected family, either condemning the act or supporting it.

Oheneba Nana Asiedu told this paper that members of the group, not feeling any remorse for attacking the wrong person, further threatened in the presence of his mother to kill him whenever they get him, a threat he has reported to the Abuakwa police.

Meanwhile, a source at the Abuakwa Police Station has confirmed that a report has been lodged at the police station and that they would do everything to bring the culprits to book.
