STORY: KORYEKPOR AWLESU FREEMAN

Supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for the Odododiodioo Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Nii Lantey Vanderpuije, have warned that they will not countenance any inferior tactics by the  New Patriotic Party (NPP) that threatens to undermine the peace and stability of the country, particularly in the Odododiodioo constituency.

They have also vowed that any form of “violent action or intimidating tactics by the NPP, particularly by Hon. Kennedy Agyapong will be crushed.”

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Today, in the aftermath of the “gargantuan” NPP rally held at the Mantse-Agbona Park in James Town in Accra last Saturday, supporters of Mr. Vanderpuije, in an angry mood, disclosed that some supporters of the NPP on the day of the rally, defaced posters bearing the image of Mr. Vanderpuije.

They noted that as law-abiding citizens, they lodged a report with the James Town police on behalf of their Icon.

Clearly not enthused by the action of the NPP supporters, they fumed that if destruction of NDC paraphernalia at Odododiodioo is what the NPP meant by their “all die be die” battle-cry, then they should prepare for what awaits them.

Confirming the incident to Today, Mr. Vanderpuije said that “When the incident occurred, it was reported on a radio station, I received a call from President John Evans Atta Mills who asked me to hold my cool. He (Mills) asked me to advice my boys to stay calm and allow them (NPP) to do whatever they wanted to do…but to ensure that I report the matter to the police which I did…”

He added that “The police decided not to heighten any tension in the area by effecting any arrest: so they (police) simply took down the names of the perpetrators as well as still images of them whiles they engaged in their destructive action….”

Mr. Vanderpuije, who is mourning the death of his mother, further vowed that “the next move by the NPP to repeat what transpired in this constituency will be fiercely resisted.”

“If they believe they are real men and understand the “all die be die” very well, they should come and try it again in my constituency.

“.. It will never happen again in Odododiodioo.

If they believe wholly in the message they preached on Saturday, then they should come and try it again…If this is the beginning of the all die be die, then they are mistaken,” he declared.

The Parliamentary candidate averred that “I bet you this would remain as the first and none of such acts would be recorded again in my constituency….I’m mourning the death of my late mother and once I lay her down peacefully, I swear to you that the NPP can never organize any rally in Odododiodioo in the near future, if that is their mission.”

“The only place that will be safe for them (to hold their rally) will be in space, and not in my constituency,” he stated.

The NPP however won the Odododiodioo constituency seat in the year 2000 with Hon. Nii Bi Ayi-Bonte as its candidate.

The seat has been noted to be a swing constituency with no particular party having an immovable strong hold.
