How do the elections work
The elections are held nationally to select a president and a parliament. The president is elected for a four-year term. The Parliament has 230 members, elected for a four year term in single-seat constituencies. The presidential election requires a 50% plus one vote to achieve victory while the parliamentary elections are won by a simple majority. Failure of any presidential to acquire the 50%+ majority required for victory will result in a runoff election. Elections have been held every 4 years on December 7 since 1992. Both presidential and parliamentary elections are held on the same day.
Currently there are twenty-one thousand and four (21,004) Polling stations in the country. The polling stations are the places where voters go to vote on election day. Voters are assgned to these polling stations permanently. A voter must cast his/her ballot at the polling center where he/she registered.
